Texas law requires firearms to be stored responsibly around children. Under Texas Penal Code §46.13, a person may be held criminally responsible if a child younger than 17 gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm that was not properly secured.
Help keep children and our community safe:
Store firearms
unloaded and locked
in a gun safe, lockbox, or with a locking device.
Store ammunition
separately and securely
.
Keep firearm keys and combinations
out of reach and inaccessible to children
.
Never assume a child does not know where a firearm is stored.
Safe storage is an important step in preventing accidental shootings, youth suicide, and unauthorized access to firearms.
